The Challenge
Riverview Group is a property development company “aiming to create communities of modern commerce and living that are at the forefront of international design and sustainability”. Riverview is the developer for Ginninderry, a 40-year, 11,500-home cross-border residential development in Western Canberra and the Yass Valley. Consisting of 4 suburbs, this community will eventually house 30,000 people. Strategic has been involved with Ginninderry since its inception in 2013, providing strategic advice and conducting community and stakeholder engagement.
The Solution
For 11 years, Strategic facilitated and chaired the Ginninderry People and Place Group, a representative forum that brings together community groups, businesses, traditional custodians, social services, environmental groups and technical specialists to ensure community views are heard and to inform the development. We also lead the project’s community engagement in NSW, implementing a wide variety of engagement initiatives.
The Outcome
As the development grew, we were successful in engaging more residents, creating positive community and group contributions to Ginninderry’s planning and development.
Our proximity to the site, our history with the client and local knowledge were valuable insights we brought to the project, as well as our engagement and group facilitation skills.
In 2024 the group moved on to its next iteration, with Ginninderry evolving the People and Place Group and the Transport and Travel Advisory Group into establishing a combined Community Services & Development Reference Group (CSDRG). We continue to provide strategic advice and work with Riverview Group as needed, across the Ginninderry development project.
